Best Times to Post on Social Media

Social media is 24/7. But, there are some target windows that are better than others. If you are not geographically or regionally oriented keep in mind that 80 percent of the U.S. population resides in Eastern/Central time zones.

People use Facebook at home and at work and optimal times to post are:

  • 12 – 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays
  • 3 – 4 p.m. on Wednesdays
  • 1 – 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays

Engagement rates are 18 percent higher on Thursdays and Fridays, and weekdays between 1 and 4 p.m. tend to see the highest click through rates. Usage spikes 10 percent on Fridays.

Twitter is used more sporadically, such as before work, while on breaks, at lunch, while commuting, and after work, etc.

  • Noon – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • High point: 5 – 6 p.m. on WednesdaysBest Times to Post Infographic 2

According to CoSchedule, B2B content performs 16 percent better during business hours, with highest click through rates on Wednesdays. B2C content performs 17 percent better on weekends and also spikes on Wednesday.

No surprise that LinkedIn is used primarily during working hours.

  • 7:30 – 8:30 a.m., 12 p.m., and 5 – 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Tuesdays tend to see the most clicks and shares, especially between 10 and 11 a.m. Mondays see lower engagement rates than the rest of the workweek. Avoid 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Pinterest has a mostly female audience that is most active in the evening.

  • 2 – 4 a.m. and evening hours every day
  • Peak at 5 p.m. on Fridays
  • 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturdays

Because Instagram is designed for mobile, usage is 24/7. Any day/any time is the rule, with only 3 – 4 p.m. as “down times.”

Best Times to Post Infographic 1Video is best any night of the week between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Some report success with posting at 2:00 a.m., 5:00 p.m., and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. As a relatively new platform, experiment and see what work with your audience.
